Ayuntamiento

The Ayuntamiento is the restored colonial-era city hall of Manila, standing beside Plaza Roma in Intramuros. The original building was rebuilt in grand style after the 1863 earthquake, then reduced to a shell during the Battle of Manila in 1945.

Today the reconstructed facade helps complete the historic square around Manila Cathedral and the Palacio del Gobernador. It is best appreciated as part of a walk through Intramuros, where it adds civic architecture to the district's churches, walls and fortifications.
