Mount Malindig

Mount Malindig is Marinduque's highest point at 1,157 metres, a dormant volcano in the island's southern interior. The ascent through forest takes most hikers five to eight hours return, depending on the trail used and fitness level. The upper slopes are cool and the forest is intact; the summit gives views across the whole island and, on clear days, to Mindoro to the west and the Bondoc Peninsula of Quezon Province to the north.

The standard starting point is the barangay of Mataas na Bayan near the town of Buenavista in the south. A local guide is recommended — the trails are not well-marked and conditions can change quickly in the cloud forest near the summit. The best months for the climb are the dry season between November and April, when the trails are passable and summit visibility is most reliable. Start early; heat builds quickly once you are above the treeline.
