Negros rewards those who get out and explore. Mt. Kanlaon makes a challenging day hike to the crater rim, though a full circuit takes three days. The caves of Mabinay are worth the trip -- Cayaso Cave leads to an underground river with drinkable water, and Pandalihan Cave has impressive stalactite formations. At Mina's Undersea World in Zamboanquita, snorkellers can swim alongside white sea turtles. The Bird Sanctuary and Mangrove Park in Bais City is excellent for birdwatching, and from Bais you can also take a cruise into the Tanon Strait for dolphin and pygmy sperm whale sightings, best between May and October.
