Puerto Princesa is the practical gateway to Palawan Island. Most travellers use it as a springboard: fly in, stay a night or two, do the Subterranean River, then head north by shared van to Port Barton or El Nido.
Coron, famous for its WWII wreck diving and the Kayangan and Barracuda lakes, is usually reached by air from Puerto Princesa rather than overland — the road north to Busuanga is long and rough. The flight takes about 40 minutes.
