Puerto Princesa

Palawan capital used for the underground river, Honda Bay islands, and Sabang mangrove trips

Puerto Princesa is the capital of Palawan, consistently ranked among the cleanest cities in the Philippines. It is the gateway to some of the country's most spectacular natural attractions, including the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that winds through an underground cave system for over 8 km.

The city itself is low-key and walkable, with a pleasant baywalk along Honda Bay and a handful of good seafood restaurants. Most visitors use it as a base for day trips: island-hopping in Honda Bay, swimming in the clear pools at Estrella Falls, or exploring the mangrove forests of Sabang.

There is a useful tourist information office at the airport next to the arrival hall that hands out maps and gives information about current events in the city.
