Bars and Cafes

Lucena is not a late-night city but it has a steady café culture driven by students from the nearby universities and travellers waiting for connections. Coffee shops are concentrated along Quezon Avenue and the streets around Maryhill College. Most serve local Barako coffee — a strong, slightly bitter brew from robusta beans grown in the nearby Quezon highlands — alongside the sweet Filipino-style espresso drinks that younger customers prefer.

For evening drinks, small bars near the commercial centre serve cold San Miguel and pulutan (drinking snacks) until midnight. The atmosphere is relaxed and local; this is not a place that caters to backpacker nightlife.
