The Aquino Center is a small museum on the edge of Hacienda Luisita, set up by the family to preserve the records and memorabilia of Ninoy and Cory Aquino — the assassinated senator and the housewife who became the first woman to lead the Philippines. The displays move chronologically: Ninoy's law and journalism career, his imprisonment under martial law, the 1983 assassination, Cory's surprise candidacy, and the EDSA revolution.
The museum is small enough to do in an hour. The personal items — Cory's yellow dress, Ninoy's bullet-stained shirt — carry the weight that the official photographs do not. The museum sits inside Hacienda Luisita itself, which makes it a useful stop on any drive between Manila and Baguio. Outside, the same hacienda has long been at the centre of one of the most contentious land-reform disputes in the country.
