Half Moon Bay is the closest proper beach to Khobar — a wide crescent of clean sand around a shallow turquoise bay, 25 km south of the city. It is busy with local families on Fridays and Saturdays, particularly in the cooler months between October and April. Several resort hotels and serviced beach clubs line the bay, most of them charging a day-pass fee for the loungers, umbrellas and pool access.
For free access, the public beach areas at either end are workable, though basic on facilities. Water sports — jet-skis, banana boats, kayaks — are easy to arrange from the resort fronts. The bay's geometry keeps the water calm year-round; jellyfish are common in summer. Half Moon Bay is also the venue for occasional kitesurfing championships during the cooler winter months.
