Gardens by the Bay

Futuristic nature park with supertrees and climate-controlled conservatories

Gardens by the Bay is Singapore's most ambitious piece of landscape engineering — a 101-hectare park built on reclaimed land beside Marina Bay, dominated by the Supertree Grove, a cluster of vertical gardens up to 50 metres tall that double as cooling towers and solar collectors. After dark they light up for the Garden Rhapsody show, one of the city's free spectacles.

The two conservatories are the paid centrepiece. The Flower Dome, the largest glass greenhouse in the world, holds plants from Mediterranean climates; the Cloud Forest encloses a 35-metre indoor mountain wrapped in the tallest indoor waterfall on earth. The OCBC Skyway, a walkway suspended between the supertrees, gives an aerial view of the grove. The outdoor gardens, free to enter, are worth a wander in their own right.
