Rock-carved Buddha Triad

Late Baekje cliff carving known as the Smile of Baekje and designated National Treasure No. 84.

The Rock-carved Buddha Triad is Seosan's clearest travel anchor. Carved into a cliff at the entrance to the old Bowonsa Temple area, the late Baekje work shows a standing Buddha flanked by two bodhisattvas, all with the soft expression that gives the carving its nickname, the "Smile of Baekje."

It is a small site, but not a minor one. The carving is National Treasure No. 84, and its setting in the Gayasan foothills makes the visit feel properly rooted in the landscape rather than sealed behind museum glass.
