Seosan is an industrial west-coast city, but the travel case sits around its edges: old Baekje Buddhist art in the hills, a large Joseon walled town at Haemi, and tidal flats and bird habitat around Cheonsuman Bay. It is not a polished city break, and public transport is thin, so it works best with a car or as a planned detour.
The strongest single sight is the Rock-carved Buddha Triad, a late Baekje carving known as the "Smile of Baekje." Nearby, Gaesimsa Temple and the Bowonsa valley make the inland hill country worth lingering over rather than treating it as a quick photo stop.
Seosan also has a different mood by the sea. Ganworam Hermitage changes with the tide, while Seosan Birdland and Cheonsuman Bay explain why this coast matters to migratory birds. Add Haemieupseong Walled Town, and Seosan clears the spare-day test for travelers already in South Chungcheong.
