Jogyesa Temple is the chief temple of the Jogye order, the dominant branch of Korean Buddhism. It is compact by Seoul standards, but its central location and active religious role make it a useful stop for understanding modern Korean Buddhism.
The temple is especially lively around Buddha's Birthday, when lanterns fill the grounds. At quieter times, visit briefly while walking between Insadong, Gwanghwamun, and the palaces.
