Crocodile Rock

Shallow reef break south of the bay — not for beginners

Crocodile Rock is the southernmost surf break around Arugam Bay, a short tuk-tuk ride from the main strip. The name comes from the crocodiles that genuinely inhabit the lagoon on the way there — not marketing. The break itself is a fast, shallow reef wave that demands experience; it's not a spot to paddle into on your first day.

The surrounding area is worth visiting for the landscape alone. The lagoon and the scrub forest that borders it are part of the buffer zone for Kumana National Park, and you're likely to see wading birds and monitor lizards on the drive out. Best surfed at mid to high tide.
