Pottuvil Point

Longer, less crowded right-hander 10 km north of the bay

Pottuvil Point sits about 10 km north of the main bay, near the town of Pottuvil, and offers a longer ride than Arugam Point with significantly fewer people in the water. The wave is a right-hander that breaks over a shallow reef — it needs a solid swell to work, but when conditions align it delivers rides of 200 metres or more.

Access requires a tuk-tuk or motorbike hire from Arugam Bay — the journey through the lagoon road passes through a landscape of fishing villages and scrubby coastal forest. There are no amenities at the break itself, so bring water and sunscreen.
