Mirissa is about 150 km south of Colombo and 30 km west of Matara. The most pleasant way to arrive is by train — take the coastal railway from Colombo or Galle to Weligama station, then a tuk-tuk for the 5 km to Mirissa (around 300 rupees). The train journey through the south coast is scenic and reliable, with multiple daily services.
By bus, express services from Colombo to Matara stop at Weligama and sometimes Mirissa itself. Long-distance buses are cheaper but considerably slower than the train. From Galle, a local bus or tuk-tuk covers the 40 km in about an hour. Tuk-tuks from Matara take around 45 minutes.
