King Nissanka Malla's Palace is one of the Polonnaruwa ruins that helps fill out the city beyond its headline temples. The palace remains are fragmentary, but they point to the ambition of a ruler who left inscriptions, buildings, and claims of legitimacy across the medieval capital.
It works best when seen as part of the wider archaeological park. After the larger royal palace and Gal Vihara, this stop adds another layer to Polonnaruwa's political story: not just sacred art, but kings competing to stamp themselves onto the city.
