Potgul Vehera is a ruined monastery from the reign of Parakramabahu I, set a little south of Polonnaruwa's main archaeological circuit. Its original name is unknown, but inscriptions suggest it was later renovated by one of the king's consorts.
The central circular building is the reason to stop. It is unlike most of Polonnaruwa's surviving shrine and palace remains, and is often linked to the tradition of monastic libraries or manuscript storage.
