Trincomalee's food is predominantly Tamil Sri Lankan — rice and curry, kottu roti, string hoppers, and fresh seafood from the bay. The restaurants in town are simple and cheap. Better seafood meals are found at the guesthouses in Uppuveli and Nilaveli, where the fish is brought in the same day and cooked with minimal fuss.
