Unawatuna is one of the better scuba diving spots on Sri Lanka's south coast. The reef protecting the bay supports a variety of marine life, and several shipwrecks lie within easy reach, including the Rangoon, the Tango, and the Lord Nelson just outside the bay. Visibility is best from November to April. A handful of dive operators work out of the beach area and along the Matara Road, offering PADI courses and guided wreck dives.
