National Museum of Aleppo

The National Museum of Aleppo is the city's main archaeological museum, with collections that trace northern Syria's long history through prehistoric, Hittite, Assyrian, classical, and Islamic material. The museum building itself, with its monumental Neo-Hittite-style entrance, is part of the experience.

The museum was badly damaged by missiles in 2016, after most of its artefacts had already been evacuated. It reopened in 2019 after repairs, making it one of the clearest places in Aleppo to understand what the city and region have lived through.
