National Museum of Prehistory

Taiwan's national prehistory museum, built near the Beinan discoveries outside Taitung.

The National Museum of Prehistory is Taitung's strongest indoor sight and a useful corrective to the idea that Taiwan's history begins with recent dynasties and colonial powers. Its collections cover prehistoric cultures, archaeology, natural history, and Indigenous connections across the island.

The museum sits near the airport rather than in the old centre, so pair it with Beinan Site Park. Together they make Taitung feel less like a remote city and more like a place with a very long human story under it.
