The Former Yilan Prison was founded in 1898, during the Japanese colonial period. Little of the original prison complex survives, but the site is part of central Yilan's cluster of reused civic buildings and helps tell the city's late-19th- and early-20th-century story.
See it as part of a short walk around the Yilan Museum of Art and nearby historic streets rather than as a stand-alone museum visit.
