Hisar is about 30 km west of Dushanbe and easily reached as a half-day trip. Shared taxis (marshrutkas) leave from the western edge of Dushanbe — the most common departure point is the Zarnisor bazaar area. The fare is a few somoni and the ride takes around 45 minutes.
Once in Hisar town, the fortress is another 3 km out. Locals will point the way, and a taxi from the central square should cost very little. Many visitors hire a driver in Dushanbe for the day to combine Hisar with other sights such as Ajina-Tepa or a drive into the Varzob valley.
