Beaches

Karon Beach stretches about three kilometres from the rocky headland at the north to the point where it merges with Kata Beach to the south. The sand is pale yellow and coarser than the fine white sand at Phuket's northern beaches, but the beach is wide and the sea generally swimmable from November to April. In high season the southern end near the Karon viewpoint is the quietest stretch. During the monsoon season (May to October), red flags are posted when the surf and undertow are dangerous — these should be taken seriously as rip currents are strong.

Water sports are available along the beach: jet skiing, parasailing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding are all offered. The best snorkelling is at the rocky headlands at either end of the bay.
