Ko Klang

Traditional Muslim fishing village island accessible by boat from Krabi pier

Ko Klang is a small island in the Krabi River mouth, about ten minutes by longtail from the main pier, home to a traditional Muslim fishing community. The island has no car traffic and a quiet, unhurried atmosphere that is a world away from the bustle of the resort areas.

Bicycle rental is available on the island and the lanes wind through fishing villages, rice paddies, and mangrove forest. Homestay options allow overnight stays, and several families offer cooking classes in southern Thai Muslim cuisine — dishes that are distinct from both central Thai cooking and the food you find on the tourist circuit. It is one of the most rewarding half-day excursions from Krabi Town and almost entirely overlooked by visitors who arrive and immediately head for the beaches.
