The Thewet Flower Market stretches along Krung Kasem Road near the Chao Phraya, and is Bangkok's most photogenic market in the early morning hours. Wholesalers arrive from across the country with trucks of jasmine garlands, marigold offerings, orchid stems, and cut flowers for the hotel and restaurant trade.
The market is at its best between 5am and 8am, when the light is soft and the activity at its peak. Even by mid-morning the flower mountains have largely been shipped out. The riverside setting adds to the atmosphere; longtail boats pull up to the canal landing nearby. The surrounding streets in Thewet are quieter than most of Bangkok, with budget guesthouses, old trees, and a university-town feel.
