The Buranathai Foundry is a working bronze-casting workshop that produces Buddha images of all sizes using traditional lost-wax methods. Visitors can walk through the production process, from the clay modelling and wax work through to the firing and polishing of finished images. It is genuinely instructive to watch craftspeople working on something that looks like it could have been made in the same way five hundred years ago.
The workshop sells finished images and smaller votive objects, and you can commission custom pieces. Given that Phitsanulok has been a centre of Buddhist image production for centuries — the Phra Phuttha Chinnarat itself was cast nearby — the foundry has a certain historical resonance. It's located on Visut Kasat Road, about two kilometres south of Wat Yai, close to the Folk Museum.
