Nong Khai's bar scene is low-key and river-centred. The stretch of road along Rimkhong (the riverside) has a handful of expat bars and local drinking spots where the main activity is watching the Mekong change colour as the sun goes down. This is not a town for late nights — the border crossing closes, the Laos side goes dark, and most places wind down by midnight.
