Getting There

The most enjoyable way to reach Nonthaburi from central Bangkok is by Chao Phraya Express Boat. Take any orange-flag boat from Tha Chang, Tha Tien, or other central piers northbound to the end of the line at Nonthaburi Pier (N30). The journey from Tha Chang takes about 45–60 minutes depending on stops. This is the recommended approach: the river journey is pleasant, and the arrival at the Nonthaburi pier is exactly the kind of scene the trip is worth making for.

The MRT Purple Line also serves Nonthaburi, with the Nonthaburi Civic Center station near the town centre. Take the Purple Line from Tao Poon interchange (connect from the Blue Line at Bang Sue). The train is faster but less atmospheric than the boat.

By taxi or Grab from central Bangkok, expect 30–60 minutes depending on traffic, which can be severe during rush hours. The riverside roads in Nonthaburi are often clogged in the late afternoon.
