Chiang Dao's cafe scene reflects the slow-traveller community that has settled here. Several excellent coffee spots have opened in the last decade, sourcing beans from the hill tribe cooperatives in the surrounding mountains. The Chiang Dao Nest has a pleasant bar with mountain views. In town, a small cluster of cafes and bars on the main road does reasonable trade with the guesthouse crowd, especially in the cooler evenings of the dry season. There's no nightlife to speak of — this is a place where most people are up early for the birds or the mountain.
