The cave complex is the obvious starting point, but the surrounding mountains and jungle offer much more: a forested temple climb, hot springs, a weekly hill tribe market, and some of Thailand's best birding. Doi Luang Chiang Dao itself is a serious mountain — guides are required for the summit, and many people do it as an overnight trek to catch the sunrise. Pha Daeng National Park to the north adds waterfalls and Yunnanese villages to the mix.
