The Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge crosses the Moei River between Mae Sot and Myawaddy. It is a practical border crossing, but also a good place to understand why Mae Sot matters: trucks, traders, families, and travelers all funnel through this narrow point.
Do not assume the border is open for casual travel. Conditions in Myanmar can affect access, and rules can change faster than guidebooks.
