About four kilometres south of the town centre, this science park was established to honour King Mongkut (Rama IV), who was an accomplished astronomer and mathematician — and who came to Prachuap Khiri Khan Province in 1868 to observe a total solar eclipse from a hilltop site nearby. The park contains a museum of natural history, an aquarium (Waghor Aquarium), and outdoor exhibits spread across pleasant grounds.
The aquarium is the main draw, with tanks displaying fish from the Gulf of Thailand and freshwater species from the region. The science museum covers the life and discoveries of Rama IV, including his astronomical work, and the observation of the 1868 eclipse that proved his solar calculations were correct — an eclipse he observed correctly but from which he contracted malaria and died six weeks later. The park is low-key and rarely crowded; it makes a worthwhile half-day trip, especially if visiting Ao Manao Beach on the same southern loop.
