Monastery of Saint Simeon

Hilltop ruins of a monastery built around St Simeon the Younger's pillar.

The Monastery of Saint Simeon stands on a windswept hill southwest of Antakya. Simeon the Younger was a stylite, an ascetic who lived on top of a pillar, and the base of his final pillar survives among the ruined churches and baptistry.

The site is partly about the ruins and partly about the setting. From the hilltop you get long views across Hatay, with the monastery stones, open sky, and modern wind turbines sharing the ridge.
