Almost every visitor to Cappadocia ends up on a hot-air balloon, and many of the operators take off from the fields immediately around Çavuşin. The flights last about an hour and lift off before dawn, drifting silently across the fairy chimneys and into the valleys as the sun comes up.
Several dozen companies run flights; standards vary, and there have been serious accidents. Check the operator's safety record before booking, and prefer the smaller-basket flights (12–16 passengers) over the bigger 20-plus ones. Prices have risen sharply since the early 2010s but a balloon ride at sunrise remains one of the most memorable experiences in Turkey.
