The underground city is the overwhelming reason to visit Derinkuyu, and it deserves at least two hours. Beyond that, the surrounding landscape rewards a slow afternoon: the soft tuff hills outside town hide smaller, less-visited cave complexes. The Derinkuyu Underground City is the main draw and can be combined with a visit to the Sts. Constantine and Helen Church in the town centre.
