Urgup has a stronger restaurant scene than Göreme — the boutique hotel trade brings in guests who want a proper sit-down dinner, and the town has risen to meet them. Anatolian lamb dishes, mezes, and pottery kebab (a slow-cooked preparation sealed in a clay pot that is cracked open at the table) are the local specialities. Several restaurants pair their food with Cappadocia wines, which is worth doing at least once.
