Somine Restaurant

Somine is one of the most reliable restaurants in Urgup, housed in a converted Ottoman building in the centre of town. The menu focuses on traditional Anatolian cooking: testi kebab (the famous pottery-sealed slow-cooked lamb), various meze spreads, and grilled meats. The testi kebab takes advance notice — you need to order it ahead so the clay pot can be sealed and slow-cooked to order.

The dining room has exposed stone walls and good atmosphere in the evenings. Wine from local Cappadocian vineyards is well-represented on the list. Prices are higher than the backpacker places in Göreme but appropriate for what you get. Booking is recommended for dinner in season.
