Above the theatre, a steep path climbs to the fortified acropolis. Walls of polygonal masonry — some original Carian work — wind around the summit, with later Roman and Byzantine repairs visible in the stonework.
The view is the main reason to climb: the river delta unspools below you, with the modern village of Dalyan visible across the channel and the silver thread of Iztuzu Beach in the distance. Bring water and decent shoes; there's no shade and the path is rough.
