Getting There

Most visitors come to Gallipoli on a day tour from Çanakkale on the Asian side of the Dardanelles. Frequent car and passenger ferries cross the strait in about 20 minutes, and there are ferry terminals at Eceabat and Kilitbahir on the European side. Çanakkale itself is a six-hour bus ride from Istanbul (around 320 km) or a short hop from İzmir or Bursa. On 25 April (Anzac Day) tour buses run direct all-night services from Istanbul to the dawn service at ANZAC Cove; book months in advance. From the ferry at Eceabat, the main battlefield sites are scattered over 20–30 km of coast road; without your own vehicle, you will want a guided tour.
