The Gallipoli Peninsula (Gelibolu Yarımadası) is one of the most significant WWI battlefield landscapes in the world. The key sites — ANZAC Cove, Lone Pine, Chunuk Bair, and Helles — are spread across the peninsula and best visited by car, organised tour, or rented motorbike from Çanakkale or Eceabat. Allow a full day for a serious visit; a half-day covers the main ANZAC sector sites.
The town of Gelibolu itself, on the northern shore of the peninsula, is a pleasant ferry crossing point with a castle and small maritime museum. Most visitors stay in Çanakkale, which has better accommodation and serves as the base for tours.
