Kıbrıs Şehitleri Caddesi — known to everyone in İzmir simply as "Bar Street" — is the main nightlife artery of Alsancak, lined from end to end with bars, clubs, and live music venues. On summer weekends the whole street fills with outdoor tables and the volume of music from adjacent venues competes cheerfully. It is not subtle, but it is genuinely lively.
İzmir's nightlife is more relaxed and less expensive than Istanbul's. The drinking culture is tolerant and mixed — young professionals, students from the city's four universities, tourists, and middle-aged locals sitting alongside each other without much social friction. The beer of choice is Efes Pilsen, brewed in İzmir; the local rakı brands are Yeni Rakı and Tekirdağ.
