Rize's chief attraction is its setting: a Black Sea city ringed by tea plantations and backed by the dramatic peaks of the Kaçkar range. The town itself is compact and best explored on foot. The main draws are the tea gardens, the fortress ruins above the city, and the short excursions into the mountains above.
