Mardin has an airport (MQM) with regular domestic flights from Istanbul and Ankara; several airlines serve the route. The airport is about 20 kilometres from the city centre; taxis and airport shuttles connect to the old city.
By bus, Mardin is served from most major Turkish cities. Istanbul to Mardin takes around 18-20 hours by bus (or 2-3 hours by plane). Diyarbakır, about 100 kilometres to the northwest, is the regional hub with more frequent connections; buses between Diyarbakır and Mardin run throughout the day and take about 1.5 hours. The bus terminal (otogar) is in the lower, modern part of Mardin; taxis and minibuses connect to the old city on the ridge above.
