Troy is open year-round. The summer months from late June to early September are hot and exposed — the mound has no shade and midday temperatures of 35°C are common. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water if you visit at this time, and aim for early morning or late afternoon.
Spring (April to early June) and autumn (mid-September to October) are by far the best times. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, the surrounding plain is green or golden, and the site is less crowded. Winter (November to March) can be cold and wet, but the site is rarely closed and the lack of crowds is striking — you can have most of the mound to yourself.
The site opens around 8 in the morning and closes between 5 and 8 depending on the season. The museum keeps similar hours but is open later in summer. Buy combined tickets to skip queuing at the second site. Tour groups from Çanakkale and Istanbul tend to arrive between 10am and 2pm; arriving outside that window gives a quieter visit.
