Letoon

Letoon, 5 km south of Xanthos, was the religious centre of the Lycian League — a federal sanctuary dedicated to Leto and her twin children Apollo and Artemis. Three temples stand side by side on a marshy plain, their lower courses permanently flooded by the high water table. Frogs inhabit the submerged portions. The Letoon inscription, found here, was a trilingual text in Greek, Aramaic, and Lycian that helped scholars decipher the Lycian language. Together with Xanthos, Letoon forms a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
