Baha' al-Din Naqshband Mausoleum

Major Sufi pilgrimage complex outside Bukhara honouring the Naqshbandi order’s namesake.

The Baha' al-Din Naqshband Mausoleum is one of the most important pilgrimage sites around Bukhara. It honours the 14th-century Sufi teacher whose name became attached to the Naqshbandi order, and the complex still feels devotional rather than merely architectural.

The site lies outside the old city, so it takes a separate trip, but it is worth the effort if you want to understand Bukhara as a living religious centre. Expect courtyards, carved wood, quiet prayer, and local visitors who may be there for reasons much deeper than sightseeing.
