The Cathedral of the Queen of the Rosary (Vương cung Thánh đường Hải Phòng) is the city's main Catholic church and the seat of the Diocese of Haiphong. It was built between 1880 and 1885 in a French neo-Gothic style: red brick with stone trim, a single tall bell tower over the entrance, and a long nave running back from the public square.
The cathedral is still in active use — Catholicism has a strong base in northern Vietnam — and Sunday masses fill the building. Visitors can step inside outside of services to admire the painted ceiling, the rose window above the altar, and the tropical-Gothic vaults. The exterior is best photographed from the square on the eastern side.
