Cua Tung is a long, lightly developed beach on the coast just north of the Ben Hai river. The sand is white and the water clear; in the colonial era it was a holiday spot for French officials, then for the Bao Dai court. Today it is largely a domestic destination — a few hotels, a row of seafood restaurants, and not much else.
The contrast with the war sites a few kilometres inland is sharp. Good for a half-day off the history trail. Best between April and August; the sea here can be rough in the winter.
