Truong Son National Cemetery

Truong Son is the largest war cemetery in Vietnam, set in the hills west of Dong Ha. It holds the graves of more than 10,000 North Vietnamese soldiers killed on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, which ran through these mountains south to the battlefields. The graves are arranged in plots by the home province of the dead, with a central monument and a small temple where families come to burn incense.

The cemetery is quiet, well kept, and rarely crowded with foreigners. It pairs naturally with a visit to the Rock Pile or the wider DMZ route along Highway 9 toward Khe Sanh.

A story
More than 10,000 white markers spread across the hillside, grouped by the province of origin of the soldiers buried beneath them. Many of the stones bear no name — they read only "liet si chua biet ten", martyr whose name is not known.
